Summer Sampler Series - A Quilt Along
A couple of months ago, I was approached by Katie of Swim, Bike Quilt with a fabulous idea. She had seen my post on Barbara Brackman's Encyclopedia Of Pieced Quilt Patterns and was wondering if I was interested in cohosting a sampler quilt along featuring blocks from the book, as well as learning more about the history of each block. Of course I was! We were very fortunate to then recruit Lee of Freshly Pieced to join in the fun too.
The Summer Sampler Series will begin Monday, July 11th. We will create three quilt blocks each week for four weeks, for a total of twelve quilt blocks. The quilt blocks will be 12.5" unfinished. Monday's will be over at Katie's blog, Wednesday's here at Fresh Lemons and Friday's at Lee's blog. I have set up a page at the top of my header (Quilt Alongs) where you will be able to find links to all the block instructions.
These are the fabulous blocks we will create:
Katie will be making her blocks using a fabric collection (Denyse Schmidt's Katie Jump Rope), Lee will be making scrappy blocks, and I will be making my blocks using solids (Pat Bravo's Pure Elements).
We hope you will join us! This quilt along is for all levels. It is for those who love traditional quilts and those who love "modern" quilts. Yes, there will be a wee bit of paper piecing for a couple blocks but please do not let that scare you away. We are all in this together and will hold each other's hands as we learn new skills and perfect old ones. Owning Barbara Brackman’s Encyclopedia Of Pieced Quilt Patterns is not necessary. (But it's a great book, you might want to get it anyway!)
Please join our Flickr group, introduce yourself and start thinking fabrics!
For reference, I purchased a half yard set of Pat Bravo's Pure Elements and then also ordered an extra 2 yards of the white/ivory for sashing. This fabric can be found at Moona Fabrics on Etsy, Fat Quarter Shop, and Hawthorne Threads.
Snag a badge below for your blog and come quilt along with us. I can't wait to see what we create together!
