Oasis

The theme of the Summer Sampler 2019 quilt along is Piecing Bootcamp, and each week we have been encouraging quilters to try new things. Well this week, Lee, Katie and I all tried something new to us - piecing an inset circle. This week’s block is called Oasis, and designed by Stephanie Zacharer Ruyle of Spontaneous Threads.

I couldn’t have been further outside my sewing comfort zone when I sat down at the sewing machine, but I am so proud of myself for making this block!

I centered my templates by folding my fabric and the template both in quarters, and matching the fold lines. I used Tailors’ chalk for marking all my circles.

For me, the hardest part of making this block was Step 12. I have a few photos of the process from when I was making a test block.

I am extra excited to see everyone’s blocks this week!

It’s not too late to join in the fun with us this summer. (It’s actually never too late!) . When you sign up, you will immediately receive all the block patterns to date. For the late comers, I’d recommend starting with the current week’s block and then making the past blocks in your spare time. That way you can immediately join in the fun with everyone on Instagram and in the private Facebook group.
