Spring Fever

Spring Fever

Yesterday marked the first day of the Summer Sampler Series 2019 Quilt Along. Always a crazy and exciting day, with all of you receiving your first pattern! This year we kicked things off with the Spring Fever block by designer Lynn Carson Harris. This year’s quilt along theme is Piecing Bootcamp. Each week’s block focuses on a specific quilting or design technique.

Lynn’s block technique is something that will carry us through the entire quilt along - precision piecing. I follow Lynn’s work - she is amazing at working with tiny pieces! She had several great tips, but my favorite was her Twirled Seams tutorial. It took a few tries for my brain to “get it”…but now I’m one of those people who can twirl my seams!

My tips when sewing this block : take it slow. Check your 1/4” seam on your machine. Don’t start the block at 9pm (unless you are a night owl)! Starch just might make your life easier with that triangle border. And enjoy the process!

Speaking of tips, one of my cohosts Katie of Swim Bike Quilt posted her tips on staying organized while sewing in a quilt along!

It’s not too late to join in the fun with us this summer. (It’s actually never too late!) . When you sign up, you will immediately receive all the block patterns to date. For the late comers, I’d recommend starting with the current week’s block and then making the past blocks in your spare time. That way you can immediately join in the fun with everyone on Instagram and in the private Facebook group.

Happy sewing everyone!
