Organized Chaos…Echino Style
I finished my Echino quilt top last week, after practically a 6 month break. I’m not sure why it took me so long to pick this one up again, I really love the Echino patterns and colors. And I even have enough fabric left over to make something else fun…perhaps an improv quilt like Elizabeth?
I will be working on the back this week…still throwing around ideas in my head. I’m not sure how to quilt it either, any suggestions? I do need to get to the store to buy batting today. The snowpocalypse is on the way to Chicago and I’m getting excited for a potential 18+ inches of snow!

This is so beautiful. I just love all the different sizes of Echino and the way the white makes everything just pop. I ws thinking of making Elizabeth’s improv quilt as well, but now I really want to make one like yours too!
Beautiful! You really showcased the fabric wonderfully!
Love your quilt top!
I’m in Chicago too. Crazy about the storm! Could make for some good sewing time.
Is there anything better than sewing / quilting while watching the snow fall outside?
What a great way to showcase Echino!!!
Love it! Looking forward to seeing the finished quilt.
I really like how you used the Echino fabrics. I hope you get loads of time to quilt it.
This is beautiful!!
I have never used the Echino fabric before but I keep seeing more quilters unsing it. Is it soft enough to use in a quilt for everyday use? I love your design and recently saw Elizabeth’s blog and they have both been great inspirations.
It is a linen/cotton blend, so it isn’t as soft as 100% quilting cotton. It does soften with washing though. Quilt wise, it makes a great heavier weight quilt for those cold days but I also plan on using this one for a sturdier picnic blanket for the summer. We spend a lot of time outside and I like something fun to sit on while the kids are playing.
Have you ever felt the Far, Far Away II fabric by Heather Ross. It feels similar to that.
It also is great for totes/purses/bags, pillows and I’ve seen some really cute skirts made from it.
I LOVE this. Ever consider creating a pattern for those of us less talented? Or a tutorial?
There *may* be something in the future…that’s all I can say.
I love the bold bright colors of echino. I love the pattern you created. It really showcases the prints instead of having them just running into each other. Beautiful!
Faith, this is beautiful! I love the quilt pattern you used (and of course I love the fabric!)
