French Botanical Quilt Top

French Botanical Top Detail

Hopefully no one reading this post is my mom. If it IS my mom, I told you to stay off my blog until after your birthday!

Now that we have that taken care of, this quilt top is to be a surprise for my mom for her birthday in a week! It is based on the fabric in the center of each square, a french botanical print from Japan. My mom loves all things French. And plants. So you see, it’s perfect for her. The design is just improvised squares in squares. No pattern, which took longer, but I like the look.

I think the colors are perfect for fall, and it looked so pretty out on my deck with the changing leaves. I used a lot of my favorite fabrics – some by Amy Butler, Sandi Henderson, Erin McMorris, Denyse Schmidt, Monaluna and Cosmo Cricket. I’m on a tight deadline, so you should see the finished product by the end of the week!

This is beautiful Faith! I have the same issue with my mom snooping around my blog, and her birthday is Sunday. I’m hoping to finish her Bliss quilt for her gift but maybe it’s a good thing I’m running behind so I don’t post it and ruin the surprise!

Beautiful!!! I am still tickled how we have the same hobby after years of being out of touch ;) Would love to sit down and chat some time to see how you became interested, learned how and find the time to churn out these gorgeous quilts! I read that you were recently at the Fabric Shack….I’ve got a lovely little gift certificate for that store that’s burning a hole in my pocket…..wish you were closer!

That is just so beautiful. The colour combination really struck me when I saw it. So serene. Muted but not pastel, soft and bright. Your mother is so lucky.

I really love it. The colors just really hit me with a cool, calming, happy feeling. It is very mellow and cheerful in my opinion! I’m sure your Mom will LOVE it. And if not, you can always send it to me and I’d give it a loving home! ;)
