Meet the Vintage Quilt Revival Quilts: Sampler On Point

Today is my last share from Vintage Quilt Revival. I’ve had so much fun posting about the quilts each week. I think it’s hard to buy a book sight unseen and hopefully by seeing the collection of all the projects, you can get a good idea of what’s inside.

As I’ve mentioned in the past, the book contains three samplers. These are the only projects Katie, Lee and I didn’t design months ahead of time. We did know that we would each do something different in regards to the fabrics and layout. Katie made her sampler in solids, Lee used a fabric collection and I made mine scrappy. Lee and Katie will talk about their samplers on their blogs next week.

I took loads of photos as I was working on this quilt, and I’m so happy I did so I can share some with you today! When I was pulling fabrics, I decided to go with a softer collection of colors. (Side note: I really have to say, Lizzy House makes the best blenders and you will see a lot of her fabrics mixed into this quilt.) I knew I was going to use white as my background all over.

If you’ve made a sampler (or any quilt really), you probably understand what I mean when I say that making blocks and watching them come together is pretty addictive.

I’d make a few and lay them out. Then get so excited that I’d make a few more.

And the more it grew, the faster I wanted to sew and finish. Once I had all 20 blocks finished, I was so, so happy with how it looked!

I decided early into making the blocks that my design would feature the blocks on point. But it took some thought to figure out just exactly how they would be laid out, and in the end, I decided to add additional blocks with pops of color. (Just a fun idea – wouldn’t those extra blocks also be cute with little wonky stars in the center instead of solid squares?)

I’m glad I took a photo just before basting, because as much as I enjoy a warm and crinkly quilt, I love the look of a smooth one as well.

And here’s the finished quilt from the book!

Vintage Quilt Revival Block Along

I have a couple other fun things to share today. Sukie from Don’t You Know Who I Am is hosting a Vintage Quilt Revival Block-Along beginning January 21st. She’ll be making 2 blocks a week. If you’ve ever thought about making a sampler or even just a few blocks for a different project, this would be a fun way to sew along with others.

Sewtopia Sewing Retreat

And speaking of Sukie – she is also hosting Sewtopia, a big sewing retreat in Salt Lake City from Nov. 6-9, 2014. You can find out more information, including important registration dates, on the Sewtopia website!

One last thing and I promise I’m done! If you haven’t checked out our “official” book website, www.VintageQuiltRevival.com, be sure to click on over. We have some technical details about using the book CD, information for shop owners about potential classes, and any project/block errata that comes up. Happy sewing everyone!

Hi Faith, I am usually not writing any comments, but this time I have to. I received the book today and I fell in love immediately. Sometimes you have a favorite in a book, but here I cannot decide which project I like the best. Thank you for that wonderful piece of crafting art!

I have been wanting this book since i saw the first pattern hit the blogs and kept telling my hubs to keep an eye out for it. I saw the date it was released and went to the bookstore to make sure it was as awesome as I thought it was going to be but they didn’t have any. I asked the clerk and he said only one copy had came in but they could order for me — I sadly said I would wait. Christmas day my last gift was this amazing book — hubby had gone the date of the release and bought the only copy they had gotten (snaeky man) and led me to beleive I wasn’t gettign it. Love the book and all the patterns and can’t wait to get started on making many of them. Thanks so much to each of you for making a book I love having in my collection.

I’m not usually a fan of sampler quilts but really love yor take on it. The way everything floats on the quilt is genius. I have really been enjoying your book. Thank you all for sharing your talent and ideas.

I love this quilt, and I’m working up the courage to make it in (gulp) extra large king size. Probably six blocks by five blocks. Goodness, that’s going to be enormous. I think I’ll do a few lap quilts first. :)

I purchased your book from amazon and it was a little delayed – but did arrive late on the 24th. I love the fact that it comes with the cd and I love the samplers you all put in. I am still making my way through the book – congratulations :-)

My New Years resolution was to ‘limit’ my book/magazine purchases in 2014, but think this one is now a ‘need’!
Love your quilt and looking forward to getting my copy of the book!

Your book is one of the best I’ve purchased ! The photos are so well done that I’d like to get started on almost every project. It was way worth the cost on Amazon. Where to begin?

Your sampler is so clever. I just love the extra pop of color. It really makes the design extra special. I don’t usually gush like this, guess I’m a fan!

Thanks so much for sharing your ideas with us. I look forward to your posts – especially during our Michigan winters.

I love the look of the blocks floating on the background. Also love the smaller squares, this gives a look of continuity to the otherwise random patterns.

I love the book! I had blocks done from a sampler I did with my LQS and wasn’t sure what I was going to do with them but wanted them on point. I looked through the book and your layout was perfect. Can’t wait to try more projects from the book! Thanks for the inspiration!
