Olfa Splash Rotary Cutter

Last month, Olfa contacted me and asked if I was interested in trying out their new rotary cutter, the Splash. I’m already a huge Olfa fan. Honestly, I didn’t even know other companies made rotary cutters until I went to a few conferences and used some in various classes. That just reinforced my love for my Olfa cutter.

I was curious to try this new cutter, not because of the new aqua color (although it is very pretty in my sewing room), but because it has a quick change way to switch out the blade. No screws!

I knew as soon as I saw the cutter though, I was probably going to be a bit challenged using it. I am a creature of habit, and I use the ergonomic cutter. It’s the style I’ve used for the last 4 years.

So…it was hard for me to try a different design. But I know a lot of people do use this style of cutter from Olfa. If you do, you will have no trouble at all.

I did want to try out the blade switch. It was just as easy as they advertised. You just slide down the little yellow latch on the back and magic! The blade removes and can be easily replaced.

My overall thoughts are same great cutter, super pretty color, and now easier blade changing which is a good thing. I’d love to see this feature on the ergonomic cutter too!

I like the ergonomic cutter also but I use the largest size – 60mm.
When I got one as a gift I thought it was too big but tried it and
I was in LOVE!!! I even use it cutting small pieces – bigger is better!
Try it – you will never go back to the smaller ones!

Olfa – use your new color and blade changer on the 60mm ergonomic cutter and I’d buy it!

I saw this Splash rotary cutter at the quilt show in Paducah. I should have bought it. I like it because of it’s bright color and how it would stand out for me and I wouldn’t have to go searching through my fabric to find it. Yes, I’m that person who carelessly misplaces her rotary cutter. I love everything in florescent colors. Thank you for the review. I love your site.

I have to agree – I am also a fan of the ergonomic design. But I cannot find fault witht he bright color and my fingers (and those of many others) will certainly go for the easy to change blade design. I hope we see this on all other cutters soon!

I have a question. Is that little yellow latch strong? I’d be afraid that over time it’d break.

I too prefer the ergonomic cutter. However, if they made it in beautiful turquoise with the easy blade release, I’d buy it!

I bought my Splash cutter at Joanns. They were hidden in a funny spot up by the line to check out. Such a cutie it is. It is much more lightweight than the typical Olfa. I like it alot. I went back to get a second one.

Ahh, well that answers that question then, I love my ergonomic one, but wouldn’t want to switch it out for an inferior model for the sake of a screw!

From the front this looks just like the cutter than I have been using for years – since 1989. The back is different – it appears they put a track on the back side just like the front side. I’ll just keep using what i have

So pretty! I use the ergonomic rotary cutter too, but I think I could get used to a new style since it’s so cute!

I use a Martelli cutter which has a handle that is perpendicular. To the blade. I still use Olfa blades because they last the longest.

I love my Olfa cutter, too. I have seen this one and the quick change blade looks to be pretty nice and can’t help but love the color. I bought my Olfa I use now about 13 years ago because it was pink :)

That was a great review. You really explain what makes this cutter different aside from the color. Thank you for clarifying it for me.

I am trying to find the olfa ergonomic cutter in the pink colour but no luck anywhere. Do you think they make it again in a pink?
