A New Fabric Stack

Fabric Stack

I’ve been asked by a special family member to make a quilt as a gift for another special family member. I’m not sure any of them read this blog but I’m going to keep the recipient details vague just in case. I spent a bit of time this morning pulling fabrics. I’m pretty excited about the stack that came together. I was inspired by a little fat quarter set I had of Maasai Mara by Dear Stella. I can’t wait to show you the blocks as they come together!

You have a very good eye for color. I am excited about what you will make from these beauties. What is the name of the lime green/circle/blob shape fabric? My son would love that print.

Those colors are beautiful together. I am just finishing a QAYG string quilt with aquas and greens (with some yellow thrown in). I, of course, cut WAY too many strings. I think I’ll add in some gray and navy for the next version. I love to get inspiration from other quilters.

If you are having trouble with colour selections, Tina, try doing Weeks Ringles class on Craftsy.com
I have learnt so much about colour, design and how to get it working for me from that course, I feel so much more confidence in my colour selections now, it’s amazing.
I used to use only fabrics from one range in my quilts so they matched, now I pick n mix.
I have some bee blocks going at the moment that I had so much confidence in my colours that I knew however they were put together by the other bee members, they would look great, and they are from a mix of fabrics from all over.

Love your selection. Going through a quilt shop and putting together fabrics for a quilt is one of my favorite things to do! What are the two type (or text) prints you are using? Everyone seems to be using type/text prints these days, but no one ever seems to post which fabric maker or line they come from. Thank you for continuing to inspire us all!

Gorgeous color combo – your eye for color and pattern is fantastic Oh to one day have a stash that I could pull that many fabrics from!! :)

  35. 37

You know, this is my favorite part — the excitement at the beginning, when you pull out different fabrics to see how they play together, and a concept begins to emerge out of nothing. If a quilt was a child, then this stage of the quilting process would be the ultrasound appointment, where you get to see your first vague, fuzzy glimpse of the quilt baby. I know, I’m a dork. ;-)

    Nice choices!! They look great!

    Nancy says:

I like the colors, and that you have some nice darks in here, too. Often, modern quilting tends too much toward the mediums, and totally ignores the darks! I notice that you don’t do that, and I think that is why your quilts are always so lovely and interesting!!

Thank you Laura! I probably won’t go through them to figure it out and list them all because many are pretty old and out of print now. But I appreciate your enthusiasm! :)

My second comment on this post. I got frantic (just a little) cuz I couldn’t remember where I saw this fabric stack. I finally took a picture of It on my iPad so I don’t lose it/you again. Can’t wait to see the quilt it becomes! Is that weird?
