Scrappy Trip Along

Scrappy Trip Along

If you are on Instagram, you are probably aware of the impromptu quilt along that started in the last week, the Scrappy Trip Along. It really began quite innocently, when Brenda, Katy and Megan became making quilts using the Scrappy Trips Around the World tutorial on the Quiltville website.

Well, I was bit by the bug and decided this was a great first project of 2013 – something spontaneous and fun! It’s a bit refreshing to just be able to jump into the party.

Scrappy Trip Along Fabric

I decided to go a bit outside my comfort zone with my colors. I’m not sure if I love it or hate it so far, but I am pushing forward. The more blocks I add, the more it grows on me. It feels all sorts of wrong to not have orange in there, but it is the one color I’m leaving out.

Scrappy Trip Along - 9 Blocks

It’s super windy here today so I could get a photo of all the blocks together outside. The color here is a little off, but you get the picture.

Hopefully I’ll have more progress to show over the next couple weeks. I am planning on 30 blocks, so I have 21 to go. If you are on Instagram, check out the tag #scrappytripalong for hundreds of photos! There is also a Flickr group with 450+ members and growing.

I didn’t notice the lack of orange until you mentioned it. It does give it a different quality and “feel.” Thank you for sharing.

P.s. I LOVE your “blog a happy place” tone. Negativity is just so…Negative! :)

I’m totally missing purple on mine. Makes me realize that I tend to quilt with same colors….usually orange! :)

I love making Scrappy Trip Around the World! My quilt group has made these as a group project, Everyone makes a block and then combined into a quilt. We use donated fabric and they turn out great. These quilts are great fun and make wonderful colorful charity quilts.

I think it looks great so far! I’m really loving seeing everyone’s versions everywhere and I wish I could join in myself! Too many deadlines and unfinished projects for me right now — but it’s still fun to follow along regardless!!

Have a great weekend! I hope you get lots of sewing time!!

looks fantastic, Faith. Love all the colors you’re using and I especially like all that black/gray in the middle of your blocks. It totally grounds all the other colors.

Your scrappy is delightful! I’ve got just a couple of blocks done and didn’t realize y’all were actually choosing palettes, so I better start considering that….thanks!

Ooh, yours is really pretty. I like your colours. They are modern but still pretty. Some of the scrappy quilt alongs are modern and bold, but bordering on ugly in my opinion. Keep going without orange!

I just need more time to get all the things I’d like to do done, including this fun Scrappy Trip. It makes me Scrap Happy (bad pun, sorry….) I like your fabrics and will start pulling some of my out this weekend.

This looks like fun, something I could actually accomplish in my spare moments. While I would like to use up lots of great scraps I have in my stash, it could also be a really good Christmas quilt project to begin now. I plan on a “handmade Christmas” with my family for 2013. So much more meaningful! Love this blog, it IS a “happy place”. Even the name is happy – I love the color yellow!!!

Aren’t they fun? Each block is like a mini quilt.

I caved to the craze and sewed a dozen into a small top although the larger it is the more the pattern develops and I may just have to do a second go at it. It is a nice way to start the year and yours looks great.

How fun! They remind me of crocheted “granny square” blankets :) I have other things I want to get working on, but this is definitely going in my to-do list! :)
