Olfa Splash Rotary Cutter

Last month, Olfa contacted me and asked if I was interested in trying out their new rotary cutter, the Splash. I’m already a huge Olfa fan. Honestly, I didn’t even know other companies made rotary cutters until I went to a few conferences and used some in various classes. That just reinforced my love for my Olfa cutter.

I was curious to try this new cutter, not because of the new aqua color (although it is very pretty in my sewing room), but because it has a quick change way to switch out the blade. No screws!

I knew as soon as I saw the cutter though, I was probably going to be a bit challenged using it. I am a creature of habit, and I use the ergonomic cutter. It’s the style I’ve used for the last 4 years.

So…it was hard for me to try a different design. But I know a lot of people do use this style of cutter from Olfa. If you do, you will have no trouble at all.

I did want to try out the blade switch. It was just as easy as they advertised. You just slide down the little yellow latch on the back and magic! The blade removes and can be easily replaced.

My overall thoughts are same great cutter, super pretty color, and now easier blade changing which is a good thing. I’d love to see this feature on the ergonomic cutter too!

A Relaxing Afternoon

Lazy Afternoon

The kids are napping and I’m really enjoying some hand stitching on my mini princess and the pea block. I can’t wait to share with you what I have in mind for this little piece of art!

Today is also day 5 of my picks for the FQS Bella Parade. The color of the day today is Robin’s Egg.

For solid coordinates, I selected…

Baby Pink, Gray, and Ivory.

For coordinated prints I selected…

Sweet Broderie Cherry Cutesy Mosaic, My Happy Nursery Shell Leaves, and Bazaar Style Ocean Gems.

Don’t forget to visit Shruti’s blog and try your hand at the prizes!

Finca Perle Cotton

Finca Perle Cotton

If you spend anytime on Flickr you’ve noticed a lot of really beautiful hand quilting emerging. I’ve decided to give it a try myself. Corey clued me in to Yarn Bazaar and I last weekend I ordered a variety of colors from them. These are Finca Perle Cotton, size 8.

I plan on using Anna Maria Horner’s tutorial to get started.

I also picked up the Finca color card. It’s really nice – well worth the $12. I just hate trying to match colors on the computer monitor. If anyone is looking for a thread to match a particular fabric, just let me know and if I have the fabric, I will do a comparison for you!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. We are going to be doing some work outside now that it has stopped raining. Hope it is nice wherever you may be!
