New Colors for the Couch
I took a break yesterday from a “secret project” to make a new pillow for my couch. I decided to bring some new colors into the room, which is mostly earth tones. I really love these prints, half from Anna Maria Horner’s Loulouthi collection and half from Tula Pink’s Parisville collection. The solid is Kona Ash. Since I am feeling much more confident in paper piecing after the Summer Sampler Series, I created my own templates for this pillow. I think it turned out quite well!
I quilted 1/4″ on each side of the seams and I love this little star it created in the center of the pillow.
The binding is a yellow print from Parisville. I was going back and forth on that choice, worried it was maybe too bold. But in the end, I think it adds a little extra punch to the pillow.
I plan on making one more pillow for the other side of my couch, but I will probably do another design with the same fabrics.

Flower Sugar Love
Yesterday and today I decided to catch up on a couple projects I had been promising to make for my little girl. I knew some of Lecien’s Flower Sugar fabric would be a perfect match for her room. I bought mine from Kerri at Sew Deerly Loved.
First, I created some bunting for above her bed. The front is the Flower Sugar prints, the back is just solid pink. I kind of winged it, but I think they turned out cute. I used the 30 degree guides on my cutting mat to create the triangles. I made just quilt binding to sew them all together.
With the left over triangles (and a few extra) I decided to make a matching pillow. I winged this one too…it was my first time making a non square pillow. My first time binding a pillow. And my first time making a yoyo. But overall, I think it was a success!
My daughter certainly is a fan!

Bee Block, Fabric and New Art
May was Terri’s month in the Twice Around the Block VQB. She sent us a set of solid and textured fabrics and asked us to make straight lined modern blocks with squares and rectangles. I knew I wanted to use the off-white to make the 3 strips, but the rest was just improvised as I sewed along. I like how it turned out!
A bit of new fabric arrived this week as well. I have plans in my head for at least one of these sets. Both are from Cloud 9 Organics. Cut Out and Keep is above, Nature Walk is below. The two collections actually look really nice together, so now I’m thinking about combining them in a fall quilt.
I also received a couple new prints for my sewing room over the weekend. They come from Kajsa Wikman’s Syko Shop.
You might recognize her from her book Scandinavian Stitches (which is amazing). The prints arrived extremely quickly, even from overseas and are very high quality. I’m thinking it might be cute to decorate my daughter’s room with a few more.
We spent last weekend in northern Michigan so I didn’t have a chance to sew, but I have two quilt sandwiches up in the sewing room and plan to focus on them this week. Hopefully I will have them finished to share soon!
