The Ice Cream Social

Amy over at Badskirt and Kate over at One Flew Over are currently hosting a sew along for the Oliver + S Ice Cream Dress. I am playing catch up as I just returned from vacation, but I am making good time on the dress assembly. I will say I have spent some quality time with my seam ripper…who knew little “V”s and pockets were so tricky??

I’m making View A and chose a chocolatey Kona solid and a print from Sandi Henderson’s Meadowsweet collection for my dress.

Check out Amy’s blog for the sew along and the Flickr group for lots of photos and discussions. One of my favorites is Kate’s version in a Liberty of London print and an Anna Maria Horner Dolby Dot voile. She extended the bottom and ditched the pockets. I think it looks like a more grown up version.

It’s not too late to join in the fun and make a dress of your own!

I had really wanted to participate in the Ice Cream Social, but I couldn’t decide if I would make a dress that would fit my niece now or maybe for next summer…so I decided to skip it. I did however go to the Oliver + S website and order a few (in several sizes) of the patterns that are being discontinued since they have 20% off if you order two or more. Can’t wait until they arrive!

I love your choices for the sew along!

That Meadowsweet plaid is one of my favorites and it looks awesome with the brown. I haven’t joined the sew-along yet but I’m rethinking because that pattern would look adorable on my granddaughter!
