Summer Sampler 2016

Summer Sampler 2016 Quilt Along

Time flies, doesn’t it? It was about five years ago that my best quilty friends Lee and Katie and I put together a little quilt along on our blogs, the Summer Sampler Series. The three of us loved the idea of traditional blocks made with modern fabrics and layouts. The quilt along was such a hit ~ so much fun, so many people learning new skills (us included!).

Today we are excited to announce the Summer Sampler 2016 quilt along ~ this time with twenty beautiful 12″ blocks, ten amazing designers and three quilt layouts.

Summer Sampler 2016 Quilt Along

Beginning Monday, May 16th and continuing through the end of September, we will be releasing one block a week for 20 weeks. That will bring us to October, when we will share our three quilt layout options. The Summer Sampler 2016 costs $20 for early birds (expires May 15th), and costs $25 after that date. For early birds, that amounts to only $1 for each block pattern. You can purchase your subscription in Lee’s pattern shop over at Freshly Pieced. If you are located in the EU, please purchase your subscription through Etsy, as it will handle the VAT.

This ilooks like a great way to dust off my dormant quilting skills with a fresh look. Can you tell me what size the blocks will be? I’m probably not up to anything too small just yet. Thanks for the info and this fun idea.

Ugh. Too early, scrolled back up and saw they were 12″ blocks. Sorry for the unnecessary question.

Will there be a post on fabric requirements for the blocks in advance? I’d like to make sure I pick up enough fabric.

Hi Gale – yes, there is a Welcome Packet you will receive when you subscribe, and it goes over all those details. Basically, we recommend the equivalent of 1/4 yard per sampler block that you create. So for 20 blocks, that would be a mix of 5 yards of fabric (or 20 fat quarters). If you plan to use the same background color for every block, we recommend approximately 2 yards of your background color fabric. You can use any left over fabric on the back.

Additional fabric requirements for finishing will accompany each of the 3 layout options in the end.

Awesome Diana! The minimum finished size (if you just sewed the blocks together with no sashing), would be 48″ x 60″. We are going to be surprising everyone with three layout options at the end of the quilt along. Expect those to be large lap quilts.

I’ve just purchased the summer sampler 2016 and printed off the first set of details…very excited like others to learn new skills! I’ve photocopied the third page(blocks) in grayscale to think about colour values. I’m tempted to use the range of greens you are using..or blues..or low value prints…can’t make up my mind!! Looking forward to starting Block 1.

I got in for the early bird, and since I’m in Europe had to order over etsy – pity that it is 3€ more expensive on etsy than from your direct shop. I’m not sure why it’s more in € than in $. Sorry to be picky – we have to pay more for just about everything here

Hi Catriona! I’m glad you are sewing along! All EU customers have to buy over at Etsy because Etsy handles/adds the VAT for us. That is unfortunately why it costs more for EU folks.
