Summer Sampler 2016 ~ A Finished Quilt!

Summer Sampler 2016 ~ Scrappy on Point Quilt : Fresh Lemons Quilts

The moment I’ve been waiting for all summer long is finally here! Today I’m sharing my finished Summer Sampler 2016 quilt. This Scrappy on Point quilt layout is one of three quilt pattern options that our quilt along subscribers received today. It features our 20 quilt along blocks on point and the negative space is full of low volume blocks and sashing.

Since the beginning, I knew I wanted my layout to have the same scrappy, low volume look as my quilt blocks. I also knew that this would mean a lot of extra work once my quilt blocks were finished. I think it was worth it though. This is now officially the biggest quilt I’ve ever made, finishing up at 100″ x 100″. I used a widescreen fabric by Angela Walters for the backing and binding ~ Whirlwind in White from her Drawn Wide line. It was amazing and meant no piecing the back.

I quilted this using a larger free motion meandering design on my BERNINA 770QE with no problems at all. I was so nervous, but the large throat space made quilting a breeze. This photo shows my quilt halfway finished and tons of room to spare on the machine.

In fact, the hardest part of finishing this quilt was figuring out how to photograph it! I ended up laying it in my yard and taking the pictures from the elevated deck. This quilt has a super long drape on a queen sized bed and is just slightly not wide enough for a king. You could add a bit of extra width on both sides though if you want it even bigger.

Wow, what a great summer it has been! I feel like we’ve all learned a ton, accomplished so much…I’m feeling quite proud and I hope you are as well. Congratulations to everyone who quilted along!

I love how your low volume background fabrics mirror the same color tones as the main body of the quilt. Beautiful!

You finished off those blocks beautifully. I confess, this has been my favorite of the ones I’ve seen this summer. Is there a place, maybe IG, where we can see works posted by others working on this project besides the designers?

Absolutely gorgeous! I’ve really enjoyed this series and have completed my quilt top! So different from yours but equally lovely, I think. Now I’m deciding how to quilt it. I think your all over meander was an excellent decision. Thanks again for hosting!

    Faith,

You’ve made a beautiful Piece of Art & in the process become a Master Quilter. By the way, the colours fit your profile of quiet happiness. Congratulations!

I have to admit I am not the biggest fan of sampler quilts. But this modern design makes me rethink my opinion. Maybe not the mixed blocks are the problem but rather the block layout? Thanks for the food for thought 🙂
