Spoonflower Fun

Jardin - Spoonflower Swatches

Several weeks ago I decided to translate a few ideas from my head into Photoshop and order fabric from Spoonflower. It almost seemed a waste to not try printing out designs onto fabric when there is a service available, you know? Well yesterday I received my first swatches and it was like Christmas. The colors were exactly like they appeared on my screen (which was my biggest concern).

I did a bit of revising and ordered another final round. I will share photos of them when they arrive in a couple weeks. But for now, you can see the digital versions on my Spoonflower profile. Pretty exciting!

    Such fun designs!
I would love to learn how to make fabric patterns for spoonflower. Give me a pencil and paper and I am fine, but I have NO idea how to do all of the repeating pattern vector stuff.

Faith, the fabric designs look amazing! I especially like the starburst one in the top right. I’d love to see how the colors on the fabric to see how vibrant they appear. I’ve seen some work on spoonflower before and would like to get a better idea how it works.

I have a Bamboo Craft but have not pulled it out like I should. Must practice!

I love Honeycomb and Seedlings! I’d love to know about the colorfastness (is that a word?) of the Spoonflower fabrics. Do they bleed? Fade?

Paige – depending on the type of fabric and how saturated the color and tight the weave of the fabric chosen, people have seen some fading over washes. For example, Heather Ross didn’t some gnome fabrics on a dark purple that faded a lot. On the other hand, her red mushrooms on white that I have didn’t fade noticeably. I was thinking of that when I was designing and that’s why I didn’t use any super saturated/dark colors. Spoonflower says to wash on delicate using a phosphate-free detergent. I would also wash on cold.

    Those designs are beautiful!
I was just looking at spoonflower and found several designs I liked for my new baby’s bedding. What weight would you recommend for a bumber, bed skirt, pillows? the Upholstry weight twill? Would you not recomend using their fabric for a sheet since it will obvioulsly get washed a lot?
Thanks in advance for you advise!
