Sherbet Patchwork

It’s been a busy week with the kids here. School is winding down which means school-parties are winding up. The weather has been absolutely gorgeous too, so we’ve been outside more than inside. Less sewing but I’ve loved every minute with my kids.

Sometimes, after more complex projects, I like to do something simple. And I never tire of simple patchwork squares. I started this baby quilt after my Arkansas Traveler quilt.

I had so much fun pulling pinks, oranges, yellows and whites from my stash. (Those glasses, love!) I’m not sure exactly how many different fabrics are here, but I believe it’s close to 40. The squares were cut to 2-1/2″ x 2-1/2″. There are 288 squares – wow! I always underestimate how long it will take to sew that many squares together.

The backing is my absolute favorite print of Aneela Hoey’s Posy line. I bought yardage, that’s how much I love it. I quilted this baby quilt in a diagonal crosshatch.

The finished quilt measures 32″ x 36″ and is up in my shop. This almost never happens, I’m so proud of myself. Ha 🙂

Great colors! I can see a boy version by just replacing the pink with navy blue.

Love this quilt. Colors are great. It looks very much like a Red Pepper Quilt – are you two BFF’s by any chance?

What a cute quilt. Such great fabrics. I always underestimate how long sewing anything together will take. LOL. I am a new follower, Sara (sewsweetness) told me I should check your blog out.

This is so adorable! At least half of my stash is orange and pink. I may have to whip one of these up to help clear them out 🙂

Such a sweet quilt, with all the different fabrics (love the elephants). Whenever I think about using simple squares, I don’t do it because it feels boring. But this is not boring at all! Maybe I just need to ignore the amount of time it takes and use small squares. There’s certainly plenty of scope for that in my scrap basket!

When I see something this pretty it inspires me to go through my scraps & cut them into squares. Love it !!

It turned out lovely! I also love a simple patchwork sometimes but those 2 1/2″ squares are surprisingly time consuming 🙂

It’s super cute! You never cease to amaze me how much you accomplish….. even during this busy time with school and kiddos. I’m right in the thick of it too and can’t seem to get into my sewing room. Thanks for the inspiration to make the time!!! 🙂

Do you rotary cut your squares or do you have a die cutter?

Normally I rotary cut mine, but this time, I happened to have a 2-1/2″ die, so I used that and cut 4 at a time. 🙂
