Scrappy Nine Patch

Well, this is sort of a good-news-bad-news post. The good news – I’m making some bright, fun scrappy nine patches! I wanted to work on something sort of simple for a while and this hit the spot. I was really inspired by the colors in the Flea Market Fancy reprint. I’m not sure how many I’m going to make, but I plan on sashing them when I’m done.

The bad news is, as I was making these fun little blocks, my sewing machine ran into an issue and it is now at the Bernina doctor. I don’t think it’s anything serious, probably just my own fault for not keeping up with the proper servicing. The thread is catching at some point inside and it is not pulling through during stitching. One stitch everything was working and the next it wasn’t. I’m so sad, because this weekend I have plans to go to a sewing day with some really super cool people.

I do have a back up machine. I haven’t used it in 2-1/2 years and it’s pretty basic. So hopefully I can find all the pieces and get it going for Saturday.

In any case, I may be Bernina-less for the next week. I think I must have looked really sad when the nice lady at the store told me, she sympathized. Crossing my fingers for a quick-servicing miracle though!

I will leave you with this picture of a rooster from my weekend trip. Because, well, I may not have many sewing pictures to share for the next week!

Oh dear, how awful for you! I get all of our school machines serviced but I don’t attend to mine nearly enough. My pain at the moment is one of our school machines won’t reverse (it’s not long back from service) so I feel that one will be going for a little adventure sometime soon to the shop. It is one of the nicer ones too!

Ah no 🙁 hopefully it will be fixed quickly for you! Love the blocks, so colourful and pretty! What is the pink flowery fabric in the top right hand square of the orange/pink block? it’s lovely!

From personal experience – don’t try to sew one project on 2 machines – unless it is improv/paper pieced. I feel that I have a pretty spot on 1/4 inch & yet my patchwork told a different story.

You are so right! My 2 machines 1/4″ are *not* the same. I might do some improv this weekend.

Fingers crossed for you that the Bernina fairies will work their magic. That’s quite an A list of quilters, enjoy your sew in Saturday. Maybe you can take a project that is in the cutting or prepping stage or that doesn’t require exact precision piecing.

Oh my, never a good time for a break down with the machine. I know how stressful that can make you feel. Hopefully your backup will work ok, if not, throw some hand stitching in your bag and make the best of it!

My machine is having issues also. But its all my fault. I was having issues and instead of fixing them tried to sew threw it. LOL my bobbin holder got hammered and I poked about 8 holes though it with my needle and now every thing snags lol. I sure learned a lot though when I pulled it all apart and figured out whats broke new replacement parts coming in the mail. It sure puts a snag in my sewing though.

Your blocks are pretty! But I feel your sadness from the missing machine–it is a definite “hit” to a person to be without a machine (or the machine you normally use). Hope the Bernina feels better soon!

I’m hoping that your back-up machine works. I have three Featherweights that I have for backup when I have to travel. And I usually always take two of them, in case one of them have a problem…Have a great time!
