Sugarplum Table Runner Quilt Along ~ Week 2

Sugarplum Table Runner Blocks by Fresh Lemons Quilts

Today marks Week 2 of the Sugarplum Table Runner Quilt Along that I am hosting over at BERNINA’s We All Sew blog. Last Monday, I went over the fabric requirements and cutting instructions. This week we will piece our first blocks – and they are foundation paper pieced! Don’t be nervous though. I took tons of pictures so you can easily follow along and be successful.

For those of you stitching along, remember to print out your paper piecing templates at “100%” or “Actual Size”. This is a setting in your printer’s dialog box that pops up when you print. The exact location of the setting depends on your brand and model of printer, but it’s usually on the first screen. Check the scale icon on the template when it prints to make sure it measures at 1″.

I can’t wait to see everyone’s blocks!

Today is Week 1 of my Sugarplum Table Runner Quilt Along over at BERNINA’s We All Sew blog. This will be a four week series running through November. You will make four different modern-traditional block patterns. (Two each of the first three blocks and one of the final center block).

Holiday Seasons and Looking Ahead

Holiday Quilt Along

Yes, that is Christmas fabric. I know, Thanksgiving first, right? But I also know that we need to get started now if we want to enjoy our holiday decor during the actual holiday season.

Case in point…I did not finish my Halloween cross stitch in time this year. But there is always 2017!

Holiday Quilt Along

The holiday fabric – Good Cheer in Coal from Juniper Berry by Basic Gray for Moda Fabrics – and Kona solid swatches at the top are part of a project I’ve been finalizing over the last week. Starting Monday, I will be hosting a month long holiday quilt along over at BERNINA’s We All Sew. It’s not a quilt, but a quilted table runner with four awesome, modern, holiday block patterns. (And hey, there is nothing stopping you from using those blocks in a quilt!) I’m so very excited to share! Until then…I’ll be at my machine and computer if you need me. 🙂

Cookbook Sampler

I finished my Cookbook Sampler this week! I am really in love with this little quilt. The colors are so cheerful, but I must admit the fabric pull was a challenge for me this time. I had a vision in my mind but (despite my fabric stash) didn’t have a lot of the exact shades of colors I was looking to use. I think I need to put a little more thought into my future fabric purchases.

This quilt uses nine blocks from The Quilt Block Cookbook by Amy Gibson. I tried to choose blocks that I felt worked well together, many with a sort of star look to them.

I had plans to complete this quilt last week, but I decided to wait and order fabric for the backing. I chose Writings on Walls from the Chalk & Paint collection by Sew Caroline. I love the light green text with the hand lettering feel. The binding is a favorite by Lizzy House, Chasing Butterflies in Backyard.

This quilt finished up about 50″ x 50″. I quilted it with straight lines, about 3/8″ apart, using the dual feed on my BERNINA 770QE. I forgot how long straight line quilting takes! I do love how it looks. (My body is sore from a long day at the machine though.)

I am thinking about hanging this one up in my sewing room to get me through winter. What do you think?
