Latitude Lattice

Latitude by Kate Spain : Fresh Lemons Quilts

As I type this post this morning, I have a visual of me standing with a microphone, tapping it…”is this thing on?” Wow, I haven’t blogged in over a month! Hopefully some of you are still with me. 🙂 I’ve slowed down a bit over the last few weeks – enjoying time with my family and puppy, doing some baking, crafting with my kids, plotting and seed-starting for my garden. It’s been fun! This doesn’t mean I’ve left my sewing machine. Here and there I’ve been planning and stitching some gift-quilts. The first uses beautiful fabric from the talented Kate Spain, called Latitude.

It’s generally really hard for me to decide on a fabric and quilt design for a gift quilt. I second, third, and fourth guess myself the entire way. But I have loved this fabric every since I saw it, and I hope the recipient will too.

I’m using the Lattice quilt tutorial from Kati at From the Blue Chair. It’s the perfect pattern to use with a jelly roll. Kati provides a template for marking your ruler. It makes for easy trimming (and no paper piecing).

I’ve been busy chain piecing and have finished the initial piecing of all my blocks.

I’m going to spend this snowy Monday ironing and trimming everything. Then time for layout!

Hopefully I will check back in soon with my finished quilt top!

I couldn’t find this quilt pattern on Etsy or Craftsy. Is Katie still selling patterns?

Hi Pam! I’m using the free template download from Kati’s blog post here – http://www.fromthebluechair.com/2011/01/lattice-quilt-tutorial.html

I know she mentioned in her post she was also selling a pattern with additional sizes…but I think she might be taking some time off from her quilting business to focus more on her photography, so she may have pulled her shop for the time being.

I just made a layer cake lattice quilt for my mother with white lattice. Turned out bright and colorful, which is what she wanted. I would loved to have known about the template when I was sewing mine together. It was hard trying to figure out how to trim it properly. I’m sure this will help others trying the same thing.

You are amazing for being able to do it without a template!

I created a similar scrappy quilt with 1.5 inch strips. I drew lines on the top of my ruler with a Sharpy pen. The lines can be removed with alcohol on a cotton ball or batting scrap.
