Grove Pillows

Grove Pillows by Fresh Lemons Quilts : Faith

When I was in Madison last month, my big purchase at The Sewcial Lounge was fabric for new pillows for my family room. They had beautiful rolls of The Grove Organic Home Dec fabrics by Birch Fabrics.

As usual I couldn’t narrow down what colors I wanted to use, so I picked pretty much them all (except the brown, it would blend too much into my couch).

Seeing Anna finish her pillows motivated me to get going on mine. I’d been hesitating because I always dread installing the invisible zipper. But she actually linked to a great tutorial on Sew Katie Did’s blog and guess what? I’m not scared anymore! It was so easy!

The two blue pillows are 20″ x 20″ and the red and yellow pillows are 18″ x 18″. I bought my down inserts at Crate and Barrel.

Since these fabrics are a Home Dec weight, I think they will hold up nicely to the abuse that comes at the hands of a 4 and 6 year old.

Overall, I’m quite pleased with how they turned out!

Love em! I think the brown you did not include would have provided a “grounding” to these colors on your settee.

Hi Lauren – thanks! I have a lot of shades of brown in the room (couch, bench, leather chair, kitchen table, end tables, cabinets…) so throwing in another shade wasn’t going to do well in the space. 🙂

What pretty pillows, Faith! I especially love that soft blue colour. V clever to make them in different sizes. Going to check out the zipper tutorial because I am terrified of zippers but am fed up of always doing envelope backs on my pillows!

I love these so much that I am looking at buying this fabric right now. Question, how much fabric did you use? The print I really want is only available in a FQ and was wondering if you made the case smaller than the 18″ insert to “pouf” it up or not?

Fun! I used the exact size of the pillow insert so it would have that full look. So, for the 18″ insert, I cut 18″ x 18″ and sewed with a 1/2″ seam allowance. So a FQ would do nicely!

I love these fabrics and the colors. I’m like you – when I find something I like I struggle to choose, so end up buy several!
