Celestial and Rosetta Star ~ Summer Sampler Series

Celestial and Rosetta Star ~ Summer Sampler Series

We are now four weeks into the Summer Sampler Series 2017 quilt along and I am having so much fun with these star blocks. Last week we made the Celestial Star by Holly DeGroot of Bijou Lovely and this week we are making the Rosetta Star by Lee Heinrich of Freshly Pieced. Both of these blocks are foundation paper pieced, and both provided lots of challenges with matching up these angles. Skill building for sure!

I continued to use (and love) Vanessa’s ombre fabric. The Celestial Star is a perfect example of how great this fabric is. All four shades of blue in this block came from one fat quarter of the ombre fabric.

For my little 6″ Rosetta Star, I used colors from two different ombres. I spent a bit of time with my seam ripper to match up those points, but I’m happy I took the extra time as I’m pleased with the results.

As you can see, I’m on track with my mockup. It’s so nice to have a plan. Last year I went scrappy and I think it stressed me out a little not to have an official fabric plan each week. 🙂 Three 6″ blocks and one 12″ block complete!

It is not too late to join in the quilt along. When you purchase the pattern, you will immediately receive all the block patterns release up to that date.

Happy summer sewing everyone!

This is such a lovely sampler. I have way too many things on my “To Do” list right now to participate, but I will enjoy watching everyone else’s quilts come together. –Andrea

I’m so sorry I don’t have the time this summer to participate in this QAL. I had so much fun last summer doing “Summer Sampler 2016” & met so many wonderful people. I may end up getting the pattern because I thought it would be fun to do a Christmas Sampler with Gingiber’s “Merrily” & add in a couple animal panels. Hope you all decide to do one next summer!

Hi Faith, I have a question regarding the Summer Sampler quilt. I, too, am using V and Co. ombré fabrics. I’m wondering if you cut your fabric by WOF or length of fabric. When I did #6, I cut lengthwise because of color placement. I’d appreciate some direction as I haven’t worked with ombré very much. I do love the look of the blocks. You can see the 6 I’ve finished on the Facebook Summer Sampler page. Thanks for your help.

Hi Juleen – I’ve just been cutting my fabric to get the color I want for the particular piece. So if I want a light green, I cut right where the light green is. My fabric has holes all over! 🙂 But I love my blocks.
