Carkai by Carolyn Friedlander

Carkai by Carolyn Friedlander

I didn’t attend last Quilt Market, so I spent some time on Instagram following those who were there. I fell hard for Carolyn Friedlander’s new line, Carkai. I’m a huge fan of Carolyn’s designs. I think I’ve worked fabrics from all of her lines into various projects ~ Architextures, Botanics, Doe, and now Carkai. They are colors and designs that I just know will work when used together or combined with other designers ~ truly great stash builders!

The one thing I’ve regretted most with the past collections is not buying enough of it. When buying a full line of fabric, I generally buy a fat quarter set. There are just so many pieces in single fabric lines these days! But with Carolyn’s fabrics, I find that I run out of that fat quarter, and then suddenly the “perfect green” is out of print. So this time, I splurged on a half yard set. I’m so happy I did!

This is a fun pull from Carkai, with a representative from most of the colors. The full collection has a lot of prints that would make excellent additions to your low volume stash.

I can’t decide if I should make a full quilt featuring this line, combine it with other lines by Carolyn, or just continue to work pieces into my projects as I go. Maybe all three!

You can find Carkai at the following shops:

Gotham Quilts
Fabric Spark
Sew Modern
Lark Cottons

Wow – I agree with everything you’ve said here about Carolyn’s collections. I bought a HY bundle this time too! I’ve really missed having some of her prior fabrics once they’ve been used up, so I wanted to be sure Carkai lasted longer. Can’t wait to see how you use them! – @chelengeorge

Totally on board w/you Faith. All of Carolyn’s prints/collections are stunning.
I only have “Doe” in my stash, FQ bundle and have found too that incorporating into any project really does it justice. Thank you for sharing.

These fabrics are absolutely lovely. I agree, with you, the collections are getting bigger and we either have to pick and choose or blow the budget. lol
I guess that is why I hold on to every last snip
    Happy Monday

As a new quilter of a year and a half, I’ve often wondered what the pros buy of any collection. Often times I see fabrics mixed into quilts that I remember seeing when I was just getting into quilting and from before which were already gone. Not only are there many fabrics in a collection to love but so many collections that I do love.
