Brush Strokes by Holly DeGroot ~ More EPP!

Brush Strokes by Holly DeGroot for Cloud9 Fabrics

I have so enjoyed spending the last week working with Brush Strokes, the newest fabric line by Holly DeGroot for Cloud9 Fabrics. Holly is so talented and has such a great eye for design, I knew that when she announced she had a fabric line coming out that it would be awesome. This line is so summery and fresh, the colors so bright and beautiful.

I decided to continue on my new english paper piecing kick and work on a big pillow for my daughter. The centers are made with 2″ hexagons, the ring around the center is made with 2″ hexagon thirds, and the equilateral triangles have sides measuring 3-1/2″ (I just made them myself at home).

It’s been relaxing to have a couple of EPP projects around to work on over the summer and in the evenings. I’m usually in such a rush to finish things. It’s nice to remind myself that it’s the journey with these, and not so much the destination.

Hi Jamie – Thank you so much! I don’t have a pattern, but if you buy the EPP shapes that I linked to in the post, it’s very easy to whip up! Have you done EPP before? I’m just starting and have learned through online tutorials I found on Google and also the three books at the bottom of this blog post – http://www.freshlemonsquilts.com/english-paper-piecing-a-new-to-me-adventure/ (Especially All Points Patchwork).

I’ve been on that EPP journey all summer. On long drives or stretched out in the recliner catching a movie, it really feels good to have a project at the ready. Every little piece is a move forward. It also encourages me to relish small projects. Purses, pillows, runners, mats. I encourage anyone to give it a try. Thanks for showcasing creative things.

Those EPPs are really pretty. Looks very nice with Holly’s fabric too. You got it exactly right about enjoying the journey. That’s what I’m trying to do now with all of my sewing.

It is so nice to sit and relax and hand sew a project. I am hand quilting a king size quilt – that will keep me busy for quite a while. But in between, I promised myself I would learn some basic embroidery stitches this summer.

Love your EEP project and the fabrics are stunning. Hope you are having a good summer.

Great use of this fabric! I’ve been looking for this line, but haven’t found it yet. It really has a freshness about it.

Faith, Thanks for introducing Holly’s Brushstrokes fabric line. So chipper and bright which I like. Love the brushstrokes and florals.
I’m new to foundation paper piecing and love it. Haven’t tried EPP. I’ll check out your tutorial. I need a portable project.
