Blue Squared ~ A Finished Quilt

Another school year has gone by, and I always find myself a mix of emotions. Proud of my kids for working their hardest, sad that they are growing up so fast, excited to have them all to myself for a couple months, a bit worried about how I will mix work and time with my kids while they are home, but ready to slow down, relax and enjoy the moment. May is always a crazy month ~ end of year presentations, celebrations, graduations, birthdays, camping, soccer tournaments... I admittedly don't do so well with being over scheduled. But I did manage to find time to finish a gift for a teacher, with approximately one day to spare.

I think I mentioned in my last post that I asked my daughter what colors her teacher liked. She came up with blue and black. I sketched out a rough plan and used it as my base for this quilt. My daughter embroidered a label for the back (I erased the teacher's name in the photo, but it is there in real life. :) ) I think it's a nice touch to have the kids work on a piece like that.

It's quilted in a free motion meandering design. I forgot to measure it before I wrapped it up, but I believe it's around 54" x 60". That was my plan anyway! The backing is Puff Porcelain by Rashida Colman-Hale for Cotton + Steel. One of my current favorites!

I am so grateful for all the work my kid's teachers put into the year. They really are like a third parent. It is a hard job that takes a very special person. We are lucky!
