Blocks, Thread and Patterns

Modern Solids by Denyse Schmidt Quilt Progress : Fresh Lemons Quilts

I had one of those weekends where you barely have time to catch your breath – 3 soccer games, 1 wedding and 2 birthday parties. Sunday night I fell asleep at 8:45! It felt good Monday to get back into the routine. I spent quite a bit of time in my sewing space. On the wall, more blocks done for my Modern Solids Challenge.

In the mail, I treated myself to one of Jeni Baker’s Aurifil set of threads. I love the collection of colors in this box, such a great variety to have on hand.

And at the computer (as promised), I have been working on the pattern for the Modern Solids quilt I’m making.

Today I’m planning to spend some time trying my hand at a bit of appliqué using Corey Yoder’s new book Playful Petals. More on what I create later this week. Wish me luck!

      Sara,

I teach teachers at university level and have been an instructional leader in secondary schools for a long time. My thought, from doing that and hearing the “I so wish for talent…” lament: just keep doing. The skill that develops with trial and error and practice is the heart of talent. I believe it takes more perseverance and reflection on practice than anything we might be born with. Go for it!

Yes! I agree with Lyn! I’ve been living and breathing this stuff for over 5 years. I think anyone can do anything they put their mind to – just takes time and practice. 🙂

Hi there! I use Adobe Photoshop for my mockups/graphics and Adobe InDesign for my patterns. I have a lot of experience with Photoshop – 15 years. But InDesign was new to me and I learned a lot with the help of the Internet and watching videos on the Adobe website.

I, too, was wondering what software you are using. I am a pc girl about to go mac (and never back I hear) but it may be awhile until I do.

I LOVE where you’re going with this solids project. Where did you get the inspiration for these blocks?

Thanks Ann! I plan on giving the history surrounding the inspiration block in my final reveal. It’s actually quite different than where I ended up, but I’ll for sure share how/why I made my changes. 🙂

    Hi Faith

I really like the way the quilt is coming together. I am excited to see the finshed quilt. I wll be very interested to see how you quilt it. I find it difficult to pick a thead color and for a modern quilt
