A New Work in Progress

Palette by Marcia Derse for Windham Fabrics

Wednesday night a rather lovely package of fabric arrive at my door. This fabric line is called Palette, part of the upcoming collection by Marcia Derse for Windham Fabrics.

I first met Marcia several years ago at International Quilt Festival. She is so genuine and kind and obviously talented. Each year since, my mom and I go to her booth and visit when we are at the show. I’m thrilled to now be working on a quilt for her for Fall Quilt Market. Here’s a start…with the reds.

Lighthouse Quilt Block by Fresh Lemons Quilts : Faith

I’m thinking of developing a quilt along with this pattern sometime early Fall. Any interest?

Things will be a bit quiet around here next week while I enjoy the last official week of Summer Vacation with my family. School starts in just over a week ~ 1st Grade, here we come!

I have loved everyone of your patterns…..sure hope you offer this very interesting new look for us. Thank you for all that you do! I reduced your great prism pattern to 62% to make a 16 block pillow for my niece who is recovering from breast cancer. It was my very first attempt at paper piecing & I just loved the procedure.

I’m also a huge Marcia Derse fan and have been anxious to see how her fabrics will go with Windham. Love, love this pattern! And I could be interested in a quilt along.

I have to say my first reaction was peppermint candy and Christmas this would be fantastic in an all over in ever color of the rainbow!

I love quilt-alongs….it’s how I’ve gotten most of my quilts done – bloggie quilt alongs are so fun! I LOVE that block you made! Except…I’m not good at paper piecing IF that’s what it takes.

Hi Faith! That looks beautiful and eciting! I haven’t had time for QAL’s but I hope to join yours because I love your design. That fabric bundle is adorable! x Teje

Beautiful design and love the red and white! And you received the fabric Wednesday evening and got all this done the next day???? WOW is all I can say!

These blocks are beautiful! I have bought three of your patterns: prism, poinsettia mini quilt, and Garden trellis. I love your precise and easy-to-follow instructions. Of course, I haven’t MADE them yet!! Fabric selection takes a long time for me…but am very anxious to get started, especially on a paper pieced project. I’m hoping to get to work once my four kids are back in school! I’d love to do a quilt along!

I really like this block a lot. I was wondering if it could be adapted to a precut? Charm packs or layer cake? I can see it in a collection of solids with a white ground. Do you think a tutorial using precuts would be possible.

Hi Lauren – Yes, this is precut friendly. The prints (or red solids here) can be cut from charmpacks or a jelly roll and the background can come from yardage or charmpacks.

I love everything you make! YOU AND YOU ALONE, took the fear out of paper piecing for me. I am off and running in paper piecing quilts. I would love to follow along in the quilt a long. Love the colors and the pattern looks super fast.

I met Marcia at he Chicago Qujilt show in June and bought some fat quarters. This would be a great way to use them. I think you have a winner here. What size are the squares?

Love this pattern and the colors are striking. I have two pieces of Marcia Derse fabric I purchased at quilt show two years ago…I love the fabric and have been waiting for inspiration…this could be it!

Hi Susan – This fabric hasn’t been released yet, but you can buy her old lines still (while supplies last, I believe they are now out of print). My best advice is to http://www.quiltshops.com/ and search “Marcia Derse”. You will find a lot of results. 🙂

Ooh, this is very inspiring! I’ve admired a lot of vintage or antique two-color quilts, especially red and white or red, green and white. But I really love the added depth, interest, and contemporary flair you’ve got going on here by using a variety of shades of solid reds rather than just one. Very cool — I’ll look forward to seeing this once it’s finished!

That pattern is lovely! Definitely interested in a QAL if I can work it into my school schedule. If not, I’ll cheer from the sidelines.

Oooooooh, magnificent. I can’t wait to see where you take this. I’m in, providing the remodel gets done in time and I at last have a place to set up my machine…!

I’m new to this and have never done a quilt along, but your pattern tells me it’s time to jump in! Love it 😉

I have returned to sewing after a long break and am just completing my 3rd baby quilt. I’m inspired by your blog and appreciate all the time you put into it. I’ve never paper pieced or participated in a quilt-a-long. I’m in for both!

Hi Paula! A Quilt Along is just a series of blog posts, where I post directions and guide you through making the quilt top. Everyone works together (or not, you can work at your own pace as well). It’s a lot of fun!
