Nautical Quilt Blocks

Nautical Quilt in Progress, Pattern by Cluck Cluck Sew : Fresh Lemons Quilts

We are now on the 5th day of school…and my 1st grader is home with a fever. Poor guy! Secretly, I have missed him a lot during the transition back, so I don’t mind the extra cuddles. (And he seems to be brightening up too!)

I was pretty productive in those first few days of school though. I bought Allison of Cluck Cluck Sew’s Nautical quilt pattern. I was looking for a quilt design with Nautical flags and was very excited to see she had one in her shop. She always has great directions and this pattern is no exception. I breezed through making 50 blocks in 3 days while catching up on some tv.

I am using the same color scheme as the cover quilt. I noticed I didn’t have a lot of blues in that shade, so I’ll be on the hunt to work on my stash in that area. Anyone have suggestions for the backing? Once I get these blocks together, I will have two quilts to baste! I see some quilting in my future. :)

Hanna Hearts

I thought I’d share just a few photos of my Hanna Hearts quilt progress while I am away at QuiltCon. It’s so cute! My 8 year old assures me.

(And totally unrelated to this quilt…if you’d like to see real time updates from QuiltCon today and tomorrow, be sure to follow me on Instagram!)

I am planning on adding some white sashing between everything. Probably either 1-1/2″ or 2″ wide. I mentioned in my last post that I used Allison of Cluck, Cluck, Sew’s Simple Heart Tutorial. These are the 4″ hearts. I just love them!

I’m going to back this one with minky so it’s nice and soft for the recipient!

Easily Distracted

Yep, that’s me. Easily distracted! As soon as I finished the next set of blocks for my Splendor Quilt, I thought “Wow, I really should make a couple quilts as gifts for {insert special occasion that occurs in one week}.” Guaranteeing said quilt gifts will most certainly be late.

My newest three Splendor Quilt blocks look nice though, right?

So, in a completely different direction I go – at least temporarily. This next quilt idea came as a combination of seeing Allison of Cluck Cluck Sew’s Simple Heart Tutorial and Quilt, and a constant Hanna Andersson advertisement that follows me around wherever I go on the internet.

I love the colors in this Hanna Andersson quilt and I figured – I could make something similar! Mine won’t be raw edge like perhaps the one for sale…has anyone seen it in real life?

It was serious nose-to-the-sewing-machine yesterday and I stitched up 99 hearts (or 198 heart halves). Not going to lie, my back was sore. I need a better chair for sure.

I trimmed them up and they are now ready for pressing.

I’m hoping to get them sewn together today. After elementary school Valentine’s Day parties that is! I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Vintage Quilt Revival : Blog Hop

This week Katie, Lee and I are hosting a fun little party to celebrate the release of Vintage Quilt Revival. If you are a regular visitor, you probably already know that our book is based on 20 classic quilt blocks. Each block is used not only in 3 different samplers, but in its own individual project as well.

Vintage Quilt Revival

This week, we’ve asked 20 awesome bloggers to share a block they created out of the book. In the last month, after they sewed they blocks, they mailed them back to us to combine into 3 special charity quilts. Katie, Lee and I will be sharing those on Friday.

Vintage Quilt Revival

I hope you will follow along and check out all the talented individuals who created blocks!
