Modern Blocks: 99 Quilt Blocks from Your Favorite Designers

Modern Blocks Cover

I have been waiting to write this post for months and today is finally the day I can spill the beans! I am going to be in a book!

Modern Blocks: 99 Quilt Blocks from Your Favorite Designers, published by Stash Books, is set for release this November and I designed one of the 99 modern quilt block patterns inside. I’m not entirely sure if I can share a picture of the block…but here’s a hint: if you liked my Echino Squared quilt, you will like the block. How’s that? There will be complete instructions for my quilt block, as well as the other 98. That’s a lot of quilt-square-bang-for-your-buck!

You can even already pre-order your copy on Amazon. I should have an early copy sometime in August and will post more then. Thanks for letting me share my excitement!

Virtual Quilting Bee – February

TATB VQB Feb

February was Kelly’s month for the Twice Around the Block VQB. She asked us to make blocks using only half square triangles. No borders, no squares. I’ve probably mentioned before that HST give me a slight panic attack and I instantly have flashbacks to high school geometry. This time I decided to search online for block ideas and also purchase a HST quilting ruler. Boy did both those things make my life a lot easier!

I decided to make the Blockade design. I divided the Good Folks fabric Kelly sent into warm and cool piles and jumped right in. I am very happy with how the block turned out and I hope Kelly is too!

Twice Around the Block VQB – January

Twice Around the Block VQB - January

This is the first month for my new virtual quilting bee, Twice Around the Block VQB. We have half of the members from last year’s bee and half new members. Kim kicked off the year with some really fun fabrics by Denyse Schmidt and Heather Ross. This was my first time seeing Flea Market Fancy blue seeds in real life. Let me tell you, they are even better in person. The solid turquoise is a Moda crossweave and it is *gorgeous*! I’m off to order some right now actually!

Kim asked for blocks made from squares and rectangles. I decided to do strips of random heights and just worked myself down the block. Each piece is also a random width. I hope you like it Kim and I can’t wait to see the completed quilt.

What’s on the Design Wall

Off Centered Innocence

I hope everyone had a great weekend! We spent pretty much both days watching football and eating chili. A great time as it is really cold outside!

I’m working with Anna Maria Horner’s Innocent Crush this week. Last week I dedicated most of my free time {nap time} to putting together a new pattern in Photoshop. I mocked up some new blocks with off-centered centers, calculated piece sizes, developed cutting layouts and fabric amounts, the whole deal.

My plan is to make this pattern available in my shop. I need to make 30 blocks for this quilt and I have 10 finished so far. I ran out of Kona Snow so I am off to the store tomorrow. I also need batting so I can finish my Good Folks baby quilt. This is what happens when I am out of supplies, I start a new project!
