Headed to Market

Flutter by Laura Gunn

This afternoon I head to Quilt Market in Pittsburgh. If you are attending, I hope you will stop by the F+W booth Friday at 11:45. I’ll be there signing copies of Vintage Quilt Revival! For those of you not able to go, I thought I’d post some pretty fabric here for you today. :)

Flutter by Laura Gunn

I received this fabric last week from designer Laura Gunn – her latest line Flutter for Michael Miller Fabrics. Last Winter I bought some of Laura’s bird prints from her Etsy Shop. I used them to decorate my guest room, so she knew I was going to be excited when I saw her new line. I can’t wait to use these to make some coordinating pillows!

I am planning on pairing them with some of Laura’s Painter’s Canvas that I have on hand. Most likely I’ll keep in simple with either log cabins or just squares.

I also wanted to share that I officially have two more patterns available in print.

You can find those in my pattern shop, along with PDF downloads. Any printed patterns purchased this week will ship once I’m back from market on Monday. If you are a shop and would like wholesale information, just email me!

Creativebug : Basic Line Drawing class

Finally, I started Lisa Congdon’s Creativebug class this week. I decided it would be fun to do some drawing with my 7 year old daughter. That’s hers up top with all the colors. She is loving it! I’m not sure she has ever spent so much time on one picture. And I am not someone comfortable with drawing, but Lisa really breaks it down into simple idea and shapes. I highly recommend it!

See you all next week!

An Easter Dress

Geranium Dress, pattern by Made by Rae : Fresh Lemons Quilts

An Easter dress with a few days to spare! High five! Seriously though, I really waited until the last minute this year. Which is better than last year when I just bought a dress from Coscto. This time I knew I wanted to make my daughter’s dress. I’m not really sure how much longer she is going to want to wear things I sew for her, but I can tell you she is still very excited about it when I do.

This pattern is the Geranium Dress by Made by Rae. My daughter is 7, but pretty tall for her age. I made a size 8 and it fits perfectly, with a little room to spare. I’m hoping we can get a lot of use out of it this summer!

We chose fabric from Anna Maria Horner’s Dowry line, Twill Bouquet in Black. I love, love, love it. For the bodice lining, I picked a solid from Michael Miller’s Cotton Coutures. They are so soft and smooth, I knew it’d be a perfect choice.

The pattern was easy to make. It took about 2 hours. My daughter didn’t want the ruffle flutter sleeves, the pockets, or the notched neckline, so that sped things up! I made the pleated skirt option, rather than the gathered skirt.

The buttons at the back were super easy with Bernina’s automatic buttonhole foot. Whenever I make something with buttons, I joke that I just sit back with my coffee while my machine does all the hard work for me.

I have one very happy little girl who is now ready for Easter!

A Spring Mix

Spring Mix Fabric Pull : Fresh Lemons Quilts

When it comes to the weather outside, this time of year always feels like two steps forward, one step back. Last week we had a great day with temperatures in the 50’s, only to be followed by a day of wet, heavy snow.

When that latest layer of snow melted and I just felt defeated by Winter, I looked out by our woods and saw these.

The daffodil bulbs I planted last Fall, starting to pop up. I am telling you, this mess of mud and leaves and tiny bits of green has been so good for my soul.

I’ve been trying to make sure the kids get some outside time on those warmer days. Between that and a sewing deadline that I can’t share right now, I don’t have a finished project to show you this week. But I have accumulated some new fabrics recently and they inspired me to take a little break and build a project pile from my stash.

My inspiration for this stack was a print from Leah Duncan’s newest fabric line for Art Gallery Fabrics, Meadow. I love the soft colors.

I pulled some coordinating prints from my stash, including some new fabrics from Lotta Jansdotter’s Mormor, Skinny Laminx’s Up, Up & Away, Eloise Renouf’s Bark & Branch, and Violet Craft’s Waterfront Park.

I made a block from my Off-Centered Squares quilt pattern. I’m thinking of using one color family per block…we shall see!

Back to work on deadlines! And fingers crossed for a warmer week!
