Two posts on the same day? Madness! But I’m so excited because the mail just came and my Heather Ross Studio Sale package arrived! I received some great pieces of fabric – most are about 15″ x 22″. And look at that art! She even wrote my name – eek! I can’t wait to get these framed and put them up in my sewing room.
And speaking of art – I actually had ANOTHER tube in the mailbox today. A print I ordered on Etsy from The Wheatfield. Aren’t the colors amazing? These are really affordable and the quality is fantastic – highly recommend!

Over the weekend I had a burst of creativity and everything I had been working on was pushed aside. *Months* ago I had made a couple Munki Munki blocks for fun. I had no idea what I was going to do with them, but I just really wanted to cut into that cute Heather Ross fabric. Then they sat in a little box….so sad and lonely. Then suddenly on Saturday, it hit me! Mini, modern, one-of-a-kind baby quilts!
I decided I needed to make a rainbow of them (minus purple – I really just don’t have that much purple in my stash!) I am so very excited with how they turned out.
Each one uses a bit of my Heather Ross fabrics. Some I had from trades, some I purchased from Kerri over at Sew Deerly Loved. Kerri sells bits and pieces of the Munki Munki pajamas – pure genius!
Each mini quilt measure 18″ x 21″. The backs coordinate with a fabric used on the front in the block and the binding also matches the backings. I quilted them in modern, “random” (I marked them before quilting) straight lines. I just love how they turned out!
I am planning on listing these in my shop sometime today. I hope Etsy fans will love them as much as I do – I see a lot more in my future!

I finished the Far, Far Away II quilt on Saturday. Yesterday my husband was a trooper and we packed up the kids, dog, and quilt to go take pictures in the rain. Luckily it was pretty wooded so we didn’t get too incredibly wet!
I’m pretty excited about how this one turned out. This quilt consists of three types of simple blocks. One set with 3″ centers, one set with 4.5″ centers and one set with 5.5″ centers. There are 42 in total, 14 squares from each of designer Heather Ross’s colorways.
The fabric is a linen blend so it is a bit heavier in weight than quilting cotton. I think this makes for a perfect fall quilt. I have visions of draping it over the kids on wagon rides once the temperatures cool off.
I wanted the back to be a soft palate and let the designs really be the main focus. After much deliberation, I settled on Kona Peach, Butter and Ash. The binding is Kona Ash as well.
Since the linen is not as soft as the fabric I normally work with, I decided to loosely quilt this with diagonal lines. Can you believe I’ve never done diagonal quilting (I think…)? I really like the look and will definitely be quilting more that way.
The final size is 42″ x 50″. I used Dream Cotton Request Loft batting, my usual.

42 Far, Far, Away II blocks squared up and ready to go. This fabric is just so beautiful. Every time I cut into a piece, I felt as if I were working with a piece of fine art. I’ve slightly changed my plan regarding what I’m going to do with these….hopefully you will see the finished quilt soon!
