Just in time to see the last leaves turn and fall from the trees, I’ve finished my fall quilt! I started to feel the pressure this week as the wind and rain came and blew so many of the beautiful red leaves away. I considered waiting for a day with blue skies to take my pictures….but hey, this is Chicago and that could be awhile!
I used fabric from my stash for the blocks of this quilt – lots of Amy Butler, with a sprinkling of Lizzy House and Heather Bailey. I originally planned on making this quilt twice as big, but life got in the way so I used the spare squares on the back for a really cool effect. The sashing is Stone by Bella Solids. I love how it has the look of linen without being linen.
I quilted it free motion style but further apart than I usually do because I wanted it to be a it looser. My husband says this is his favorite quilt so far, which surprised me because he wasn’t all about it when I was making it. It measures 62″ x 44″.

Today I decided to begin work on my Munki Munki blocks. After spending a lot of time collecting fabric, I found it quite hard to cut into it. Especially fussy cutting. But I really like the results. I’m thinking I will make a bunch of different sized blocks over a *long* period of time. I say that because it took the entire afternoon nap time to make these two. Nap time when I should have been….folding laundry, cleaning the kitchen, swiffering the floors, cleaning the bathrooms…all that glamourous stuff! Oh well, the dirty house will still be here tomorrow. :-P

I was getting itchy to cut into my new Amy Butler Love fat quarters. So once again, I stopped everything else I was working on and created a baby snowball quilt. I wanted to do something that would showcase the big prints. My favorite is the orange and purple fabric in the middle snowball – love it!
The back is simply strips of the fabric – again in an effort to display the large prints. This line is really growing on me the more I look at it. I’m definitely going to go back to the quilt store and buy some more!
This quilt is a 21″ square and was quilted free motion. I used a couple of the prints for the binding. I think it’d be quite cute in a baby nursery or on a tabletop.

In the last week it seems Fall has officially arrived in Chicago. No more highs of 70 in the forecast, the leaves are changing and falling, mums and pumpkins are everywhere, it even smells crisp outside. Luckily this is my favorite season and working on this quilt has got me thinking about all the fun ahead – hayrides, pumpkin picking, apple cider… It’s going to be a long winter here, so I’ll be needing a lot of quilts to stay warm!
