Happy Saturday! Yesterday when I posted my rainbow geese sneak peek, I had several people comment and email me about how to I got my perfect points. I think most people traditionally piece their flying geese (and I have instructions for how to do that on my Radiant Splendor block tutorial).
When I first started making flying geese, I made them using the traditionally pieced method. But like some of you, I was never totally pleased with the results. (I can be a perfectionist at times.) Once I learned to paper piece, I decided to try paper piecing my flying geese. And not surprisingly, just like everything else that comes from paper piecing, they were perfection.
At the bottom of my Patterns and Tutorials page, I provide links to download the templates I use in various sizes. But just to make it easier for you, I am linking to them here as well. All the sizes listed are finished sizes. The templates do include the 1/4″ seam allowance around each flying geese paper piecing unit.
|1″ x 2″||2″ x 4″||2-1/2″ x 5″||1-3/4″ x 3-1/2″|
As with all templates online, be sure to print at 100% or “Actual Size”. If you have never paper pieced before, I do have a tutorial for getting started.
I hope you enjoy them!

We will all be at the Rosemont Hilton across the street from the Donald Stevens Convention Center, on Friday, June 21st starting at 7pm. I hope those of you in town, or coming in town for the show, will stop by and visit with us! I’ll be at the meetup and then at the show Saturday with my mom and most likely Lee – if you see us, please say hi!

No project to really share this week…working on a deadline while spending mornings at the pool for swim lessons.
I’m excited to cut into this as soon as I finish my current deadline-quilt. If you aren’t familiar with Modern Yardage, you can find out all about their fabric printing process on their Informational Page. The neat thing is you get to select the scale of your print.
These prints (in no particular order) are:
Fun-Fetti in Twilight Blue, Large
Take Flight in Walkway Grey, Large
Berry Branch in Emerald, Medium
Veranda in Noir, Medium
Tidal Pool in Ocean Depths, Large
Coral Reef in Kelp, Large
Molecular in Arctic Blue, Medium
Chaise Lounge Chevron in Citron, Medium
But as I mentioned, first I am working on a quilt I can’t share yet…but I can show the yummy fabric stack.
Lots of Bonnie and Camille prints with a couple others from my stash worked in. Can’t wait to show you more!

Confession: Yesterday was the first time I’ve sewn a stitch in about 2 weeks. If you follow me on Instagram, you know my family spent the last week at Disney. The week before that, I was in full vacation-prep mode. So when I finally sat back down at my machine, I decided a mini quilt was a great project to freshen myself back up.
And just in time for Jennifer of Ellison Lane’s Modern Mini Challenge. (Details a bit below.)
So, this mini quilt has kind of a funny story behind it. I feel like for awhile, every time I logged into Facebook I saw an ad for Missouri Star Quilt Co. And I really liked the star quilt block on their logo. The design, the colors – right up my alley! So, I made that star. Same colors and everything.
I still need to add the binding, but it’s almost there. It measures 20″ x 20″.
Are you interested in joining in the Modern Mini fun? (And yes, there are prizes!) Challenge yourself and try something new: a new technique, a new pattern, a new quilting style, new type of fabric, etc and make a mini quilt.
You can enter any mini quilt that you’ve made within the past 6 months. Remember, a mini quilt can be a mug rug, a mini quilt, a pillow, a table topper, etc. Only one entry per person.
Mini Quilt must be at least 6″ x 6″ and no bigger than 24″ x 24″.
You can enter a mini quilt made from your own design or from a pattern.
Please give credit to the pattern designer in your description.
